Contact us well in advance so we can secure the entry date and trailhead that best suits your group! Wilderness Permits can be secured up to six months in advance, and permits for popular trailheads are snapped up quickly. However, 40% of all permits are non-reservable (become available 24 hours in advance), so if you are flexible about the exact trailhead and itinerary, we can put together a great trip at the last minute. Front-country use--staying in campgrounds (or outside the park) and going for day-hikes--is not subject to quotas, so we can put together a front-country trip on short notice if you want to see the sights without backpacking into the wilderness.
Yosemite High Country Backpacking
Many itineraries are possible. See 'Yosemite Overview' for notes on wilderness entry permits--the earlier we start planning, the more trails will be available to us. The high country of Yosemite is best accessed from the stunning Tuolumne Meadows area, the only place in the park where a road crosses the Sierra Crest (over Tioga Pass, elevation 9,940'). Trailheads include Cathedral Lakes, Sunrise Lakes, Murphy Creek, Ten Lakes, and many more. The Tioga Pass Road is open seasonally, usually from mid-May through early November. Backpacking the high country of Yosemite is best done during the months of July, August and September.
Yosemite Valley Backpacking
Several great itineraries are possible in the immediate vicinity of Yosemite Valley. These trips are at relatively low elevation, so this is a great option for the months of May and June, or October and November--when the high country is snowy and/or cold. Camping in the wilderness on the rim of Yosemite Valley is an experience you'll never forget! As with any backpacking trip in Yosemite, we must apply for limited wilderness permits, so make arrangements far in advance (see Yosemite Overview, above).
explore Yosemite national park
Yosemite has many trails, waterfalls, lakes, streams and scenic overlooks that can be visited by walking a short distance from your car. There are also many longer hikes that are perfect for a half-day or a full day, but don't require overnight backpacking. Contact us to plan the perfect itinerary for your group! Advance planning is necessary to secure accommodations, whether you plan to stay in one of the park campgrounds or in a nearby hotel.
