Tahquitz and Suicide Rocks

Tahquitz, birthplace of the Decimal System for climbing ratings and home to some of the best Yosemite-style granite outside of, well, Yosemite! There’s a reason so many of the greats of the Golden Age of Yosemite climbing learned here. It’s a fantastic classroom—medium-length, technical routes that are easy to access and comfortable during the shoulder seasons of April-May and September-October. I work up here for Bob Gaines’ company, Vertical Adventures, so his rates apply (a day up at Tahquitz is currently listed at $395/one person, $450/two people). Contact me first to discuss dates and climbing goals, and then I’ll put you in touch with Vertical Adventures to book the trip. Tahquitz, with routes up to 1,000 feet in height, is a perfect next step for climbers who have done the shorter multi-pitch routes in Joshua Tree and want to try some longer routes at higher elevation.

High Sierra and beyond

Contact me well in advance so that I can set up insurance and permit days with my local partners in Bishop, Mammoth, Las Vegas, Boulder, Devil’s Tower, and beyond. I pay a percentage of your fee to cover my local partner’s permitting and insurance costs. With these costs plus travel, my rates will be a bit higher when guiding farther afield.
